Killed in a Snowslide - Son of Charles Luther Abbott; Brother of Charley H. Abbott, William P. Abbott and Suzette Abbott Galloway

The Aspen Daily Times (Aspen, CO) March 22, 1906

Silverton, March 21--The Mountain Queen mine was swept by a snowslide last Saturday and all the buildings, including the compressor, house, were destroyed. A force of twenty men escaped without injury. The party which went up to the Bonner mine yesterday morning in search of the bodies of Lucky Bill Thompson and George Abbott, returned late last night with the body of Abbott, which was found in bed crushed to death under the weight of the timbers of the cabin. He was asleep when the slide occurred. The cabin was buried under several feet of snow. The body of Thompson could not be found. It is thought his body can be recovered when the tunnel is opened again.

The Durango Democrat (Durango, CO) March 22, 1906

Word from Telluride yesterday was to effect that the big Butterfly mill near Ophir Loop has been demolished by a snowslide Sunday, no one killed and only one man hurt.
By phone with Silverton last night it was learned that digging parties were out all day yesterday and only succeeded in recovering the body of George Abbott. Five men are now camped near the Robert Bonner mine and twelve more go out from Silverton this morning to hunt for Bill Thompson's remains, buried in the slide near that mine. Seven men will go to the Silver Wing mine above Eureka this morning to bring down "Bob" McIntyre, who was badly injured by the same slide in which George Marcott (??) was killed. The dead man has relatives living in vicinity of Farmington.
