Funeral service for Mrs. Gladys Elwanda Moncus Johnston, 88, of Alexander City, will be Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She will lie in-state one hour prior to the service. Rev. Zenus Windsor and Rev. Darrell Moncus will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Johnston passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Adams Health and Rehab. She was born on May 6, 1924 in Clay County, Alabama to Garl Driscol Yarbrough and Virginia Lois Padgett Yarbrough.

She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnston attended Mellow Valley School and later worked for Russell Corp. She enjoyed singing karaoke, riding the pontoon boat, working in her yard, and flower gardening. Mrs. Johnston was also a hard worker, loved life, and was always concerned about others being comfortable and cozy.

She is survived by her daughters, Sara Meigs, and Jane Graben, Kay East (Billy) all of Alexander City; son, Steve Moncus (Peggy) of Alexander City; grandchildren, Elisa Kirby, Lola Talton, Wendy Channell, Penny Bradford, Brandy Harrelson, David Graben, Timothy Graben, Mark Graben, Darrell Moncus, Dewayne Moncus, Tracy Kennemer, and Sandra Grenberg; 16 Great-Grandchildren; 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren; sisters, Vera Hayles (John), June Abbott, Margaret Spurlin, and Vondell Fetner; brother, Jimmy Yarbrough (Elsie); 8 Step-Grandchildren; 10 Step-Great-Grandchildren; 5 Step-Great-Great-Grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence A. Moncus; husband, Carroll Johnston; grandsons, Aubrey Shane Bailey and Bobby Dean Davis; granddaughter, Sharron Graben Zysk; her parents; sisters, Nell Williams and Elosie Carmack; and brothers, Paul Yarbrough, Clyde Yarbrough, George Yarbrough, and Trent Yarbrough.

The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, 3054-C McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.
