2 Die In Home.

The bodies of an elderly woman and her middle-aged son, both semi-invalids, were found in their rural Walkerton home Wednesday afternoon. Authorities believe they had been dead nearly a week.

Mrs. Anna Hoeppner, 89, and her son, Carl, 55, both of route 2, Walkerton, were found shortly after 1 p.m. by Mrs. Hoeppner's daughter and the family doctor, Bryce Rohrer.

Dr. Rohrer notified county police, and Det. Sgts. Gary Cooper and John Thorp and deputy coroner Lewis Juday went to the home.

Police speculate that Hoeppner fell out of bed and called to his mother for help. It appeared that the mother tried to move the dresser drawer that her son had fallen behind, and it fell on top of her.

Neither of the two could walk without the aid of a walker.

When the bodies were found Hoeppner was lying in the corner of the bedroom. The mother was trapped between the dresser and the swinging mirror.

Dr. J.C. Richter, La Porte county coroner, said that Mrs. Hoeppner died of a cerebral hemorrage, and had been dead since the day of the accident April 17, one week after she was found.

Her son died of starvation and thirst, and had been dead since April 19 according to Dr. Richert.

The bodies were taken to the Giese-Wurster Funeral home in La Porte.

County police have ruled out foul play and stated that the two died of a freak accidental death.
