Valedictorian of her class, Mrs. Grubbs was accepted at nursing school in Charlotte. Unable to attend for financial reasons, she found an outlet for her caring nature through her employment at the Davie County Office of Public Health and later as an assistant for over 40 years in the dental offices of Dr. Robert Long in both Mocksville and Statesville, until her retirement at age 84 in 1999.
A lifelong member of Mocksville First Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Grubbs held several offices there during her active years, including President of the Women of the Church in 1952-1953.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister and brother; siblings, Robert Adams, John Harper Adams, Cleo Ammons Clement Smith, Stella Beaver Campbell, Dorothy A. Hay, Virginia A Waters and Louise H. Hapner; and her husband of 30 years, Paul Cashwell Grubbs. Survivors include a son, Paul C. Grubbs, Jr., of Newington, CT; a daughter, Lynn G. Bridges and one grandson, R. Eric Bridges, both of Mocksville; a special niece, Missy W. Foster; a sister-in-law, Geneva G. Bowles of Concord; and numerous nieces and nephews. The memory of her warmth, wit, compassion and generosity is cherished by her family and many friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Pat Spicer officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at the home. They request that memorials be considered for The Advocacy Center, 261 S. Main St., Mocksville, NC 27028.
