He was born Jan. 15, 1932, in Allen County to Glen and Marie J. (Heltzel) Abel.
On July 18, 1983, in Wolcottville, he married Norma M. Walker. She survives in LaGrange. Also surviving is a son, James L. Abel of LaGrange.
Mr. Abel, nearly a lifetime resident of LaGrange County, was a retired truck driver for National Serv-All.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his stepfather, Harry Wallace, two brothers and a sister.
Private graveside services in Ontario Cemetery, Howe.
