Henry Lichtenwaldt, a member of the "Greatest Generation" joined fellow members in arms on October 5, 2012. Henry was born on May 6, 1920, in Windsor, Colo.
Henry's early years were dedicated to service to his community and country. Serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps starting in 1937, he worked on many of the projects still in existence today. His military service included Colorado National Guard and active Army with the 168th Field Artillery, 37th Infantry Division culminating in the South Pacific during WWII. Henry was awarded the Philippine Liberation ribbon with bronze star, Asiatic Pacific Service medal, American Defense Service medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Henry married Ruth Faye Zeiler youngest daughter of five at Camp Roberts, California in 1942. Henry and Ruth had two children, William Dale and John Charles.
After WWII, Ruth and Henry enjoyed travel throughout the country. They were both avid trap and skeet shooters with numerous trophies' to highlight their accomplishments in the sport. Additionally, Henry enjoyed the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, golfing and woodworking were his favorite hobbies. Many happy years were spent with a close knit group of family members during picnics, travel and holidays. Henry and wife Ruth were longtime members at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Fort Collins.
Henry worked in Fort Collins for numerous auto dealerships during his lifetime. He retired from full time duties as a service manager then worked part time at Colorado State University bookstore. He loved garage sales and was an avid collector and salesman. He completed his working career with Hertz, shuttling cars though out the Rocky Mountain area. He was a longtime member of the Fort Collins Elks Club.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Katherine; wife, Ruth; children, William and John. He is survived by brother, Bill and numerous nephews and nieces in Colorado, California, Utah, Illinois and Texas.
Henry will be interned at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery alongside his wife, Ruth and son, Billy during a private ceremony.
