James was born in Hoke County, NC on September 23, 1923 to the late Marshall Akines and Lillie Stanley Akines. He retired from Tomlinson Furniture, after 35 years of service, and he then went to work for Wagner Woodcraft, where he worked for 8 years. James continued working at Akines Logging until he was 81. He was a member of Gospel Baptist Church where he was a member of the Grayson King Sunday school class. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a good man and he loved his Lord and family, and had committed his life to Christ in February of 1982. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 1 sister.
Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Mary Lambeth Akines, whom he married on August 6, 1943. Also surviving are 2 sons, Tommy Akines(Jean) of Lexington and Johnny Akines(Betty) of Sophia, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandson.
A service to celebrate James' life will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with Pastor Tim White and Pastor Frank Gribble officiating. Interment will follow in Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, from 6 until 8 pm.
