Deceased Name: Douglas Richard Abbott
ROANOKE RAPIDS - Mr. Douglas Richard Abbott, 82, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at his home.Mr. Abbott was born Dec. 30, 1927, in Woodstock, Vt., the son of the late William Abbott and Jennie Tatro Abbott. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne Abbott and George Abbott.
Mr. Abbott was retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service. He was a charter member of the Lake Gaston Lions Club and a former volunteer fireman with the Roanoke-Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed playing golf and bingo.
Survivors include his wife, Josie Edwards Abbott; his daughter, Allyson Taylor and her husband, Ronnie, of Midlothian, Va.; and his granddaughter, Angie Losch and her husband, Scott, and their children, Kyle, Dylan, Trevor and Rachel.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements, with the Rev. John Alford officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with full military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
