The Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery is located at North Pleasant Valley Road and Quigley Road, Approximately 15 miles NW of American Falls, Idaho.
The Cemetery was next to the Evangelical Lutheran Martin Luther Church in Pleasant Valley, both were dedicated June 27, 1915.
Early German homesteaders organized the Martin Luther Church on October 31, 1909. The congregation met in member's homes and the Pleasant Valley School. Construction started for a new church in 1913 on ground donated from the Sprattler homestead. The corner stone was laid August 21, 1913.
It is unclear when the first burials took place, however by Decoration (Memorial) Day 1915 there were graves at the cemetery to be maintained and memorialized.
In 1947 the Evangelical Lutheran Martin Luther Church in Pleasant Valley merged with St. John's Lutheran Church in American Falls, Idaho. The Martin Luther Church closed but continued to be used for special occasions. By 1975 time and vandalism had taken it's toll, the Evangelical Lutheran Martin Luther Church was razed. As it was consumed by fire it seemed to say, "My job is done; now go on."
After the 1947 merger with St. John's, some families had the remains of loved ones moved to The Falls View Cemetery in American Falls. Burials at Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery ended.
The Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Pleasant Valley is maintained by members of St John's Lutheran Church at American Falls, Idaho.
Thanks to the staff at St Johns for help in gathering the cemetery information. Also Thanks to Greg D's Eagle Project 2003 for the translations.
