Earl William "Bill" Adams, 85, of Rising Sun, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg.

He was born Oct. 11, 1926, in La Feria, Texas, the son of Earl Edward and Alice Irene Schnabel Adams. His family moved to Jefferson County when he was 6. He attended Central School from first grade until he graduated in 1945. He joined the Navy on June 5, 1945, and served until June 1, 1946. He again served during the Korean War, this time in the Army, from Sept. 18, 1950, until June 18, 1952. He worked as a guard and then as a lab technician at Fernald for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He formerly attended Manville Christian Church and Rising Sun Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Rising Sun Post 59 of the American Legion, Aurora Eagles, Aurora Moose Lodge, Korean War Veterans of America and the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Williams Adams, whom he married Feb. 17, 1951; two sisters, Norma Jean Ayler, of Madison and Mary Alice Bowman of Rising Sun; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother, James; and one sister, Dorothy Ann Carrigan.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Burial will be in the Rising Sun New Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Ohio County Rescue Unit, the Rising Sun Post 59 of the American Legion or a charity of the donor's choice.
