He was born on March 29, 1937, in Mohawk a son of the late Matt and Hilda (Usitalo) Maki.
Carl attended and graduated from Calumet High School.
He was employed as a mason for Copper Country Homes in Mohawk.
Carl enjoyed hunting, moving snow, making wood and life in general in the Keweenaw. Most importantly he loved helping his family and friends with whatever they needed.
Preceding him in death was his parents and five sisters, Aili, Helen, Elma, Martha and Laila.
He is survived by a sister, Elsie Rock of Florida; a brother-in-law, Russell Wiirsu of Laurium; two local nephews, Wesley Aho of Mohawk and Art (Ann Marie) Saari of Mohawk; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with the Rev. Ken Toth to officiate.
Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet on Friday from 3-4 p.m.
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
