Aili Maki was born December 30, 1923 in Mohawk, a daughter of Matt Maki and Hilda (Usitalo) Maki. She attended Mohawk and Calumet schools. She worked at Kentala's Bakery in Laurium and at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. She was a member of Northwoods Christian Assembly. She will be remembered as an awesome grandma.
Aili Maki married Arthur A. Saari in 1950. He passed away in January of 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three sisters- Martha, Laila and Helen.
Surviving Aili Saari were: A son, Art Saari (Ann Marie) of Mohawk; 6 grandchildren- Corey, Alex, Derek, Shane, Zachary and Daria; a brother- Carl of Mohawk; Sisters- Elsie of Washington and Elma of Hancock; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral: Erickson-Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with the Rev. Ken Toth officiating.
