Richard G. Mumaw, 82, Kokomo, died 11:04 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at North Woods Village Health Care, Kokomo. He was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Howard County to Harry M. Mumaw and Gertrude (Parker) Mumaw. He married Phyllis V. (Rayls) on March 12, 1948, and she survives.

Richard retired after 34 years from Continental Steel Corporation in Kokomo, where he was chief shipping supervisor. After his retirement, he was owner and operator of ARIEL Enterprises in Kokomo. He graduated from Kokomo High School in the class of 1945. He was a member of Abundant Life Church.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis V. Mumaw, two children, Denise P. Johnson and Gary (Nancy) Mumaw, one brother, Charles (Hideko) Mumaw, two sisters, Louise Aamoth and Jean Darlin, raised with him like a sister, Joan Hunt, nine grandchildren, Richard Small, Marcus Small, Charlie Mumaw, Mary Mumaw, Melissa Douglass, Dennis Johnson Jr., Justin Mumaw, Drew Mumaw and Derek Mumaw; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles L. Mumaw; two brothers, Sylvester Mumaw and G. Cedric Mumaw, and two sisters, Anna Blyndeanna Embler and Violet Rayn.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Abundant Life Church, 2160 E. Markland Ave., Kokomo. Pastor Charles Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Kokomo.
