Funeral services for John H.Abby, 73, retired Ellery farmer, who had resided in Albion for the past 16 years, were held from the Ingram Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, Bro. Ronnie Kinnaird officiated at the services.

Mr. Abby passed away at the Fairfield Memorial Hospital at 8:45 p. m. Nov. 17. He had been taken to the hospital the previous day, after suffering a heart attack at his home on South Seventh Street.

Mr. Abby was a state highway foreman for 8 years, under a Democratic administration. He had also worked for the Ingram Furniture Store for 5 years, following his retirement from the farm.

An active member of the Little Prairie Christian Church, he had been a Deacon, an Elder, chairman of the board and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Born April 22, 1892 in Edwards county to William and Hattie Chalcraft Abby, he was married October 15, 1913 at Ellery to the former Zeta Woods.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Zeta Abby of Albion; 2 sons, Elmer of Carmi and Marlin of West Salem; sister, Mrs. Alice Smith of Golden Gate; a brother, George Abby of Ellery; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery.
