She was born October 5, 1944, in Wilmington, NC, daughter of the late Jennings and Ruth Collie Otts. She was predeceased by her much beloved husband of 40 years, Dr. John Bryan Abbott, Jr. and her brother, John M. Otts.
Mrs. Abbott is survived by her son, John Bryan Abbott, III April, and her treasured grandchildren, Jordan Brooke, 4, and Alexander Preston, 2, of Frisco, TX; her sister, Gail O. Kermon Robert M. III; sisters-in law, Linda Otts Raab, and Adrienne Jackson Lee A. all of Wilmington; nephews, Martin Otts, David Otts, Robert Kermon, IV Maya, James Clifton Kermon Caroline, Phillip Jackson Pamela, George Jackson Lisa; nieces, Anne Kermon and Maria Otts Garvin Glen; and nine great-nieces and nephews.
Carla spent her childhood in Wilmington and graduated from NHHS in 1962. She is a past Grand Worthy Advisor of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls for the State of North Carolina. She received her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Mrs. Otts was a Senior Program Analyst employed with the IRS for 22 two years. While with the IRS, Carla formed many valuable professional and personal relationships around the country. She was an active member of Wrightsville United Methodist Church, a member of the Hanover Seaside Club, North Carolina Sorosis, Goldenrod Chapter OES, and a volunteer with the Thalian Association.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2009, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8pm Thursday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
Memorial gifts may be made to Wrightsville United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, or Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
