Rites Held for Pioneer Resident of County
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Aanonson, 92, pioneer resident of Emmet county were held April 29 at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran church with the Rev. C.B. Gunderson and L.G. Hinderaker officiating.

Pall bearers were Kerney Paulson, Gunder Paulson, Paul Paulson, Milford Christian, Melvin Christian and Harold Johnson.

Out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Halver Berg of Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. George Carlson of Motley, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Sam Stueland of Pengilly, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Martin Aanonson of Boone, and Mrs. Ann Skelton of Lamberton, Minn.

Mrs. Aanonson was born April 4, 1862, in Ulvik, Hardanger, Norway, her parents were Pedar Anderson and Guri Halvorson Vambeim. Baptized and confirmed in her native country, she left Norway at the age of 18 years and immigrated to this country.

She made her home with a brother and sister here and did housework until her marriage to Ole Aanonson on Nov. 19, 1880. The couple purchased and established their home in Jack Creek township. She lived there for 64 years until, in 1944, she moved to Estherville to live with her son, Aanon.

At his home she died on April 26.

Mrs. Aanonson was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters and two sons, Peter and Helena who died in infancy, John and Mrs. D.W. (Annie) Lucas.

Surviving are five children, Mrs. Abraham (Julia) Steuland, Mrs. Vern (Helen) Haines and Aanon, all of Estherville; Peter of Ringsted and Halver of Tintah, Minn. also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Aanonson was the last surviving member of her immediate family and also the last living charter member who helped to organize the Immanuel Lutheran ladies aid of her church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 13, 1954)
