Leila LaVerne Berry was born August 7, 1921 in La Grande, Oregon, the daughter of Verne Alva Berry and Ruby Hazel Alford. She married Oscar Theodore Aas in 1941.

A longtime resident of Reno, she had lived in La Grande for 43 years before coming here in 1964. For 20 years she had been employed as a Social Service Director in the nursing home industry.

Survivors included her mother, Ruby Berry; three daughters, Tanja Jasper, Paula Haak, and Dana McNamara; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Debra, David, Jamie, Melissa, Megan, Conor, and Maura; four great-grandchildren, Thomas, Ivan, Rachael, and Jordan; and a special cousin, James G. Sailing, who Leila always referred to as her brother.
