Gloria Mae Carlisle Richards 1925 ~ 2006 Gloria Mae Carlisle Richards, 81, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2006. Born May 6, 1925 in Murray, Utah to Royal Thornley and Don Etta Pugh Carlisle. She married her eternal companion and the love of her life John Roland (Jack) Richards, May 7, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. Now they are reunited after a brief parting. Mom was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, including the Young Women's organization and Relief Society. She served with her loving husband Jack in the Salt Lake Temple. Mom loved to cook for her family. She also enjoyed gardening and yard work in our "pink house". She loved animals - especially her cats. Mom gave all her time, love and devotion to her seven children. She believed that being a mom was the greatest blessing and the best thing she ever did. She loved all the noise and energy at home as we played in the yard. She was there when we got home from school and often had freshly baked chocolate chip cookies for us. When the sunflowers bloomed in the early fall she would cry because it meant we had to go back to school. Mom supported us in all that we did and gave everything she had to us. Mom spent countless hours at ball games and dance programs. We truly loved her and we will miss her. Survived by her only daughter, Dollie (Masa) Sugiura, and six sons, Randy (Rosalie), Golden, Doug (Kerry), Sterling (Cidney), Royal (Elissa), Russell (Kim); 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, June Carlisle and brother Rex Carlisle. The family expresses their gratitude to Vista Care Hospice, the Murray Care Center and the Cottonwood 1st Ward. Friends may call Wednesday, August 2, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street and Thursday, August 3rd from 10:30 - 11:30 at Cottonwood 1st Ward, 5913 So. Highland Drive. Graveside services will follow at 12:00 noon at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 So.
