Edna Aagesen, 100, of Appleton died Monday, September 3, 2012, at Appleton Area Health Services-Nursing Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 8, at 11:30am at St. John's Catholic Church in Appleton, with Father Brian Oestreich officiating. Burial will be at the Appleton City Cemetery following the service on Saturday. Visitation will be held at St. John's Catholic Church on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the Church on Saturday.

Edna Italia Aagesen was born in Hibbing, Minnesota on January 22, 1912, the daughter of Domenico and Margherita (Moriconi) Mattioli. Edna was baptized and confirmed at the Italian Church in Hibbing. She attended Hibbing High School and graduated in 1929. Edna enrolled in the Hibbing Junior College for two years. In 1935 Edna was united in marriage to Elmer H. Aagesen. This union was blessed with five children: James, Michael, Laura, Deanna, and Stephen.

Edna lived in various northern Minnesota towns including Hibbing, Meadowlands, and Barnum. Following Elmer's discharge from the Navy the couple moved to Canby and then to Appleton in 1948.

Edna was a homemaker, active in church and in the community, and she was an accomplished artist. She was a charter member of the Appleton Art Club, a member of the Faculty Wives, Monday Club, a member of the American Legion Auxillary, and a member of the St. John's Catholic Church Rosary Society.

Edna died on Monday, September 3, 2012 at Appleton Area Health Services. She had attained the age of 100 years, 7 months, and 12 days.

Edna is survived by her children: Laura (James) Martin of Bagley, Deanna (Clarence) Lundquist of Little Falls, Stephen (Suzanne) Aagesen of Paynesville; daughter-in-law, Judith Aagesen of Willmar; 12 grand children and 20 great-grandchildren: Michael (Jackie) Aagesen, Nichole and Christopher Aagesen, Nancy Aagesen, Patricia (Gene) Halldorson, Katelyn, Jacob and Sarah Halldorson, Maria (Dean) Reznecheck, Keith, Cassondra, Kayla, and Kyle Reznecheck, Karen (Steve) Kuhn, Jenna and Stephanie Kuhn, Theresa Aagesen, Samantha Sorenson, Lisa (Tracy) Bengston, Daniele and Zach Cordes, Mitchell, Matthew and Adam Bengston, Eric Martin, Jason Martin, Andrea (Greg) Niswender, Heather (Jon) Huebner, Paige and Elle Huebner, Bret (Alisha) Aagesen, Sadie Aagesen, and Erin Aagesen (Brett Jessen).

She is preceded in death by her parents; 12 siblings; her husband, Elmer in 1984; sons: Michael in 1938 and James in 1996; and a grandson, William in 1996.
