Bertha Elizabeth Wallin McDevitt, 79, of Asheville, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Carepartners Solace Center after a long battle of declining health.

Mrs. McDevitt was born on September 4, 1936 in Madison County and grew up in the Revere Community. She was a graduate of White Rock School. Bertha was employed and retired from American Enka Corporation/BASF after 36 years of service.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph McDevitt of 49 years and by her parents, Robert Lee and Berzilla Chandler Wallin.

Bertha was a wonderful mother and leaves behind her two sons; Thomas R. McDevitt and his wife Donna of Asheville, Randy W. McDevitt and his wife Becky of Candler; four grandchildren; one great grandson.

Mrs. McDevitt was an avid viewer of Jeopardy and you knew not to call her when it was on. She had a heart of gold and would give her last penny to a needy stranger.

A private service will be held at the Wallin Family Cemetery in the spring of 2016.
