Curtis was born at the Deaconess Hospital in Sidney on October 30, 1922. He was the first born of Chris and Emma (Hendricksen) Rasmussen of Three Buttes. In 1925 they moved and purchased the homestead and land of his aging grandparents, Peter and Madsine Hendricksen, located in the Brorson community. He was baptized and confirmed at the Brorson Lutheran Church. Curtis attended Hardy Elementary School in Brorson. He attended Sidney High School graduating in 1941. Curtis married Florence Sorensen on March 15, 1944. They, along with their two sons Kerry and ElRay, lived in Sidney and Savage. Curtis farmed and worked at Holly Sugar during the campaigns. In 1955 they moved to Spokane, WA after finding work with Kaiser Aluminum. In 1958, when Curtis's parents decided to retire and move into Sidney, they returned and became the next owners of the farm.
In 1977 Curtis returned to work at Holly Sugar fulltime and obtained his Boiler Operator License. He retired from the factory in 1987 but continued farming. After his son became the fourth generation owner of the land, Curtis would help when needed. Curtis served on the board of Lower Yellowstone REA and Sidney High School as a Trustee. He belonged to the Brorson Cemetery Association and had been involved with the Farmer's Union, FFA, Toastmasters Int'l and many other organizations.
Anyone that grew up or worked with Curtis knew he liked pranks and practical jokes. He had a great sense of humor and would even laugh at his own mishaps.
Curtis died in his sleep at his home in Brorson, Tuesday, July 16, 2013.
Surviving him are his three children, Kerry of Sidney, ElRay (Janet) of Spokane, WA and Annette (Alan) Adams; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and brother, Harvey (Janet) Rasmussen of Wellesley, MA.
Curtis is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Florence Rasmussen; sister, Doris Swanson; and brother, Glenn Rasmussen.
