Florence Naomi Sorensen was born on January 29, 1921, at her home in the Brorson Community which is located West of Sidney, Montana. She was the ninth and final child born to Christian Peter and Ottilia (Nielsen) Sorensen. Florence attended church and Sunday school at the Brorson Lutheran Church until the family moved North of Sidney when she was five years old. She would help weed the acres of beet, vegetable, and watermelon fields along with herding the milk cows through ditches as they ate grass. Florence attended school in Sidney and was the only sibling to complete high school. Unknown to her, a math classmate, Curtis Rasmussen, would be her future husband. She than continued her education in Great Falls, MT where she completed a secretarial course. She returned to Sidney and worked at the Draft Board during WWII.
She was set up on a blind date with Curtis. They married on March 15, 1944. Florence became a full time housewife and gave birth to two sons Kerry & ElRay. The family moved to Spokane in 1955 when her husband took a job at Kaiser Aluminum Plant. They returned to Sidney in 1958 when Curtis's parents retired.
