Julia Aamoth Yonkers, age 83 of Midland, passed away on June 30, 2012 at the MidMichigan Medical Center. Born Julia Ellen Tatum on August 1, 1928 in Bloomington, Indiana, to the late Jewett R. and Mary (Johnson) Tatum. Julia was the fifth generation to be raised on the family farm homesteaded in the mid-1800s by her father's ancestors. Julia attended Sanders grade school and graduated from University High School in Bloomington, Indiana in 1946. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Indiana University in 1950. She met her future husband, H. Lyle Aamoth, at Indiana University, and they were married on August 26, 1951 in Bloomington, Indiana. They lived in Bay City, Michigan until 1959, at which time they moved to Midland, Michigan. H. Lyle Aamoth passed away on August 30, 1975 in Midland. Julia began her teaching career at Logansport, Indiana in the early 1950s, and also taught in Bangor Township and Bay City. She started teaching in the Midland Public Schools in 1970, where she taught first grade at Longview and Siebert until her retirement in 1986. Julia was a member of the 20th Century Club, AAUW, MARSP, the Midland County Historical Society, and King's Daughters. She worked as a volunteer at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center for several decades. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Julia also was active for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Nursery School, as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of various boards of the Church. She married Edward H. Yonkers on August 25, 1983.

She is survived by her husband, Edward; a son, William (Sharon) and granddaughters, Erica and Kelsey; a son, Robert (Julie) and grandsons, Peter and Brian; and a brother, William Johnson Tatum.
