LaVerne Abbate
Dorothy "LaVerne" Abbate, 85, of Madison, a former Lexington resident, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at the King's Daughters' Hospital.
She was born March 20, 1916, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Barker and Connie Wright Thurman. She had retired as a registered nurse after 15 years with the Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a member of Christ Church in Brooklyn.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas J. Abbate; one daughter, Jennifer Morgan of South Euclid, Ohio; one son, Ronald Kroger of Lexington; one sister, Edith Taff of Madison; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Marvin and Carroll Thurman.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison Chapel, with burial in Liberty Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Liberty Cemetery.
