Morris Edison Abbott, 52, died peacefully at his home with his family at his side at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer.
He was born in Jerseyville on Feb. 17, 1961, the youngest of five children born to the late James F. and Ruth C. (Wolfe) Abbott.
Morris graduated from Jersey Community High School and was a loyal member of the First Assembly of God, both in Jerseyville. He was the caretaker for Lax Cemetery for several years, and worked at Wal-Mart in Jerseyville for 15 years before his health declined.
He married Amanda Leigh Kintzle on June 18, 2011, at the First Assembly of God in Jerseyville, and she survives.
Also surviving are one brother and sister in law, Mark and Sherry Abbott of Jerseyville; two sisters and a brother in law, Gertrude "Trudy" Dunham and Ellen and Thomas LaPlant, all of Godfrey; a sister in law, Eileen Abbott of Fieldon; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; his mother in law, Sharon Woolsey of Jerseyville; and his ‘Grandma', Evelyn Woolsey of Jerseyville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Abbott on Jan. 20, 1997; and a brother in law, George "Jugger" Dunham.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the First Assembly of God in Jerseyville, with Revs. Carl Hayes and Larry Hayes officiating.
Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the First Assembly of God in Jerseyville.
