Rozella Marie Littlefield Abner, 92 years old, of Morehead, KY, widow of David Francis Abner, died August 25, 2014, at home of natural causes.

Rozella was born December 6, 1921, in Cherokee, OK, the daughter of Samuel Orton Littlefield and Lennie Mae Blaylock Littlefield and attended schools in Oklahoma and Texas.

Rozella was a Women's Army Corps (WAC) WWII veteran enlisting in July 1944 at Dallas, TX and completed basic training in Ft. Benning, GA. She was assigned to the Army Air Force base at Ellington Field, TX. While on leave in Dallas at the USO club, she met Dave who had just arrived at the Navel Air Station in Dallas that weekend. They were married six weeks later in Houston, TX on January 13, 1945. Rozella worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company in Lexington, KY, as a salesperson and Seamstress. She created many beautiful and intricate pieces of clothing, including lace wedding dresses and winter coats for family and friends.

Her friends at the American Legion Auxiliary, Parent Teacher's Association, Girl Scouts of America, and Rowan County Republican Party describe her as hospitable, supportive, and dedicated in her leadership roles. She was a smart, thoughtful and capable woman whose life was grounded in raising, caring, and loving her family while supporting her husband in their various businesses. She never met a stranger, always took up for the underdog, and was completely honest in all things. She was the shining light of her family's lives and will always be remembered with love and affection and truly missed.

Survivors include four children, Barbara Marsh (Bob), Pat Dailey (Porter), and Kelli Barhorst (Tod) of Morehead, KY, and Susan Grogan (Alan) of Lexington, Ky.

Twelve grandchildren include Ty Howard (Candi) Candy Howard Dales (Kevin), Ross McClain (Emily), Sarah Dailey (Branham Ware), Emily Dailey, Chris Abner (Sabra), Lauren Abner, Allison Grogan Buckley (Evan), Ross Grogan, and Claire, Page and Blake Barhorst.

Great-grandchildren include Jared, Abby and Alexa Howard, Cade and Josey Norden, Morgan and Griffin McClain, and Kegan, Connor, Grayson, Sheraden, and Sidney Dales.

Additional survivors include one brother, Melvin Littlefield (Barbara) of Colorado Springs CO, and one sister, Joyce Daniels (Raymond) of Amarillo, TX.

I addition to her parents and brother, Rozella was preceded in death by her loving husband David in 2013; beloved son Michael in 2000; brother, Patrick Bailey; and sister, Betty Gates.

The family would like to thank the caregivers who stayed with Rozella, especially LaVonne, who provided exceptional care.

Visitation will be 5 p/m/ until 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. A celebration of life will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with family friend Bill Redwine officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full Military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126.
