Emelia Achtenberg, 81, New Leipzig, died January 05, 1999, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MST Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Leipzig, with the Reverend John Amundson officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural New Leipzig.
Pallbearers will be Miranda, Cassandra, Nathaniel, and Alroy Achtenberg, and Rodney and Jim Staiger.
Emelia Staiger Achtenberg was born on November 15, 1917, in Glen Ullin to Gottlieb and Christina (Delzer) Staiger. She attended rural schools there and married Ray Achtenberg on March 21, 1948. She was a true farm wife, working side by side with Ray in the fields and with the cattle.
She especially enjoyed her poultry and garden. In the winter she did crocheting and embroidering. In later years she especially liked to visit and reminisce about the happy times spent with both her and Ray's family.
Family was very inportant to Emelia and she held them all dear. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Leipzig, and the Heart River Homemaker Club.
Emelia is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Fred Houzvicka, Ismay, Montana; one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Jaunite Achtenberg, New Leipzig; four granddaughters, Miranda, Cassandra, Jenna and Rachelle; two grandsons, Nathaniel and Matthew; one brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Martha Staiger, Hebron; and one foster sister, Ella (Don) Ford, St. Paul, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ray.
