Former Sheriff is Laid to Rest Here
A. B. Hazen, Veteran Resident of Bemidji, is Buried in Greenwood Cemetery.

Attended by a large assembly of friends and relatives, funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon for A. B. Hazen, former sheriff of Beltrami county, who died at his home in Mill Park last Friday morning after an extended illness. The veteran resident of Bemidji, who was past 79 years of age, was laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery. Rev. L. P. Warford officiated in the services, which were attended in a body by Bemidji Elks, who also conducted short services at the grave.

Mr. Hazen was born in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, April 4, 1852. In his span of life he had traveled much, associated himself as a youngster with army life, pioneered in the early days in Beltrami county, served two terms in the sheriff's office and had a variety of other experiences equally as interesting

He had been a resident of Beltrami county about 25 years, first being engaged as a logger and later going into business in Bemidji. He was elected sheriff in 1908 and 1910 for two-year terms. In recent years he lived on a farm south of the city until four years ago when he moved to Mill Park.

A large number of relatives survive, including his widow, Hannah, four stepchildren, Mrs. Helen McKinnon, Mrs. Edna Ross, and Joe Davis of Bemidji and Mrs. Nellie O'Keefe of Milwaukee, two sons, Marian of Minneapolis and Earl of Bemidji, six daughters, Gladys Hazen, Mrs. Dorothy Van, Mrs. Irma Van Arnum and Dora Hazen of Bemidji, Mrs. Nora Abbott of Eagle Bend, Mn., and Mrs. Etta Knott of Parkers Prairie, two brothers Willard of Parkers Prairie and Edmund of Priest River, Idaho, and one sister, Mrs. William Hyatt of St. Ignatius, Montana.
