REXBURG - Venla Cooper Wright, 86, of Rexburg, died December 28, 1996, at the Rexburg Nursing Center of natural causes.
She was born October 19, 1910, at Iona, to James Aurelious and Amanda Olsen Cooper. She attended elementary school in Iona, and Ricks Academy in Rexburg.
On May 29, 1929, she married Francis R Wright in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She worked with her husband in the meat-butchering business for several years in Rexburg and in California, and they later opened a butcher shop at Matthews Grocery in St. Anthony. In 1959 she began working at the Idaho State Training Center in St. Anthony, where she worked for 12 years before retiring. Later, when the Foster Grandparent organization came to the Youth Services Center, she assisted Robert Parrish in developing that program, which she worked with for another 17 years. Her husband preceded her in death.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served for 32 years in the Primary, and for several years in the Young Women's program. She was also active in civic clubs in Rexburg. She was talented at organizing programs, plays and activities for the youth. She loved flowers, music, dancing and carpentry.
Survivors include her three daughters, Donna (husband, Gene) Abegglen, and Ann (husband, Glenn) Wickham, both of St. Anthony, and ReNae (husband, Don) Hedges of Riverton, Wyo.; two sons, Roger (wife, Jeanne) Wright, who is serving an LDS mission in England, and Robert (wife, Sherrel) Wright of Spokane, Washington; a brother and two sisters, Wayne Cooper, Theora Fields and Norma Going, all of Idaho Falls; 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Rexburg LDS 13th Ward, 700 Park St., with Bishop Eric Erickson officiating. Burial will be in Sugar City Cemetery.
