MOOREVILLE Marian Mann Abel, 70, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was a native of Tennessee and a graduate of Brownsville High School in Brownsville, Tenn. She received her bachelor’s degree in music and English from Blue Mountain College and a master’s degree in music education from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. She taught piano and music in public schools in Brownsville, Texas, Olive Branch, Oakland and Kilmichael. She was choral director at Fulton Junior High School, Itawamba Agricultural High School and Itawamba Community College. She served as chair of the music department at ICC until retirement. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Bryant Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Abel Hester, and her husband, Danny, of Tupelo; two sons, Cecil Ward “Abe” Abel Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Mooreville, and John Mark Abel and his wife, Trudy, of Purvis; one brother, Walter Mann and his wife, Kay, of Fairview, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Lex Hester, Len Hester, Jenny Hester, Will Abel, Pat Abel, Josh Abel and Jake Abel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil W. Abel Sr.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
