Eli Washington Abbitt
Eli Washington Abbitt died at 20 minutes to 5 o'clock Friday afternoon, January 21, 1916, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Johnson, 816 Klotz street, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 19 days. Mr. Abbitt had been failing for several years, and until enfeebled by disease was employed for a number of years as flagman at the Lebanon street crossing of the Big Four.
Mr. Abbitt was born in Decatur this state, March 22, 1840, and had been a resident of Boone county for the greater part of his life. On October 26, 1866, he was married to Lucinda Shelburne, of this county, and two daughters, Mesdames Bessie and Lydia Tolen survive this union. One sister Mrs. Harriet Smith, is also living. Mr. Abbitt was a member of the First Baptist church, of this city, and a regular attendant until ill health confined him to his home.
The funeral services will be conducted from the residence of James Tolen, 824 South Meridian street, at 10:00 o'clock Sunday forenoon, by Rev. R. H. Kent, pastor of the First Baptist church. Interment at Oak Hill. (The Lebanon Pioneer - Thurs., Jan. 27, 1916, pg. 4)
