Jane Sites was born in Detroit, Michigan, USA the daughter of Bertha Mary Helland and George N. Sites. Her father George N. Sites had enlisted in the Union Army sometime between 1861 when the civil war began and 1865, the year he died, not from battle but from disease. His rank was as a private, Company C in the 15th Regiment Michigan infantry. George was buried in the old cemetery at New Bern, Craven County, North Carolina. Jane was provided for in his pension from the United States government for her fathers' service in the civil war. Since she was so young, born 19 days after his death, the pension recipient was her grandfather, Hans J. Helland. She lived with him and her mother. Her mother married Peter Hanson and after she obtained a divorce, she married Erick Lind. Jane was 14 years of age when she married her first husband, Edward John Abrahamson a native, of Sweden.


Jane was married to Johan Edvard Abrahamson on 17 Dec 1879 in Cokato, MN. Children born to her from her first marriage include: Eddy Abrahamson, Alfred Abrahamson, Charles Nathaniel Abrahamson, John Albert Abrahamson, Alexander Abrahamson, Algot Gerome Abrahamson; and Edna Alvina Abrahamson, Clara A. Abrahamson, and William (Willie) Abrahamson, were born between Johan's death and her marriage to Julius Ponto.


Jane was married to Julius Ponto on 19 Oct 1899 in Sheyenne, ND. They were the parents of Frederick Johan Ponto, Mary Ponto Ohman, Lillian Ponto Kaveney Houghton Lind, Henry William Ponto and Esther Viola Ponto Swanson.
