Margaret was born on April 13, 1928 to Adolph and Anne Vik in Chamberlain, SD. She grew up on the family farm 3 miles east of Draper and graduated from Draper High School in 1946.
After 2 years and a summer at college, she taught school for one year at Marshall School north of Draper.
On June 29, 1949, she married Harold Rankin in Rapid City, SD. To this union were born 7 children: Greg, Ron, Kris, Karen, Bob, Joseph and Karla. Harold and Margaret lived on the farm near Draper until moving to town in 1982.
Besides farming, they enjoyed bowling, square dancing and traveling. Margaret also liked to cross stitch, crochet, and do crossword puzzles. Music was an important part of her life and she played the organ for St. Anthony's Catholic Church for many years.
After living in Draper for 85 years, she moved to Pierre in August of 2013, and remained there until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Joseph; daughter, Karla; sisters: Shirley and Beverly; brother, Roger; and daughter-in-law, Susie.
Survivors include her children: Greg and Bob of Draper; Ron (Nan) of North Platte, NE; Kris (Dick)Bradley and Karen Authier of Pierre; son-in-law, Bill (Tess) Abernathy of Pierre; ten grandchildren: Andy (Jill) Rankin, Kati (Drew) Venard, Tyler (Chelsee) Rankin, John (Mary) Bradley, Nathan (Anna) Bradley, Jared (Yvonne) Rankin, Jenny (Dan) Morrow, Michael (Jen) Authier, and Emily and Mark Abernathy; 13 great-grandchildren: Riley and Peyton Rankin, Mallory, Tenley and Brayden Venard, Addison and Joey Rankin, Lucy and Sam Bradley, Elliot Rankin, Everett and Sawyer Morrow, and Benjamin Authier. She is also survived by a sister, Eleanor Miller; brother, Ray (Shirley) Vik; sisters-in-law: Margie Hayes and Donna Rankin; special nephew, Scott Anshutz; and numerous nieces and nep
