SATANTA - Kolene Alexander, 78, died August 28, 2014 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Inman. She was born on September 29, 1935 in Satanta, the daughter of Orville Milton and Faye Opal (Beck) Tunis.


Kolene was a lifetime resident of Satanta, graduating from Satanta High School. She went on to attend Garden City Community College for one year. On April 21, 1956 she married Charles Alexander in Clayton, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2001. Kolene worked at the Satanta COOP, the Satanta District Hospital, and for Dr. Smith. She also helped Charles on the farm. Kolene enjoyed horses, flowers, and gardening. Kolene had a very loving and caring heart, often putting others needs first. She was always willing to help out where ever she could. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Satanta .


Kolene is survived by two children, Bonnie Stice and husband Ken of Hutchinson and Steve Alexander of Satanta; one sister-in-law, Shirley Tunis of Garden City and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Charles, she is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Virgil and Melvin Tunis.


A Celebration of Life service will be held at Satanta United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Kelvin Heitmann and Dr. Rick Goertzen presiding. Inurnment will follow at Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Sublette on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 5-8 PM. Memorials are suggested to Satanta Methodist Church, Wounded Warrior Project, KU Breast Cancer Research, or Satanta Alumni Scholarship in care of the funeral home.
