Anna was born Johanna Marschaleck in Bohemia, now the Czech Republic, and emigrated to the U.S in 1873. She married John Appel (now Abbl) in 1878 in Aurora Missouri. Anna moved with her husband and oldest daughter from Missouri to Minnesota by covered wagon.
According to the 1900 U.S. census, Anna and John Abbl were living in Nicollet county Minnesota. They had seven children at the time: Mary (b:1882), Louis/Alois (b:1885), Joseph (b:1888), Kate (b:1890), Edward (b:1892), Whelmimi/Minnie (b:1894) and Caroline (b:1895). Anna and John also had four other children who died in infancy.
In 1902 the family moved to Palouse Washington where they continued farming. After John died in 1923, Anna moved to Portland, Oregon to be with her daughters. She died in Portland several years later and was buried beside her husband in Buhl, Idaho.
