Tiago the son of Luis Reis and Leonilos Reis, dear brother of Teofilo Reis of New Bedford Massachusetts enlisted in the US Marine Corps on February 8 1966 in Boston. In Vietnam he was assigned to and served with Company F, 2d Battalion, 4th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

On September 12 the Battalion relocated from Thua Tien Province to Con Tien in northern Quang Tri Province to provide security to the outpost as well as C-2 during Operation KINGFISHER.

On September 21, while on a search and destroy operation some 3 kilometers east of Con Tien (Hill 158) elements of the Battalion became heavily engaged with a large NVA Force in the vicinity of the abandoned airfield of Nam Dong near the junction of Routes 606 and 541. The Marines were hit by 82mm mortars and enemy artillery as closed with the enemy, numerous casualties were sustained during the battle, one of the casualties was Cpl Reis who was killed in action as a result of multi fragmentation wounds by hostile mortar fire.
