Friday, July 20, 1917, Jefferson City, Missouri, United States Of America
A 6 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Abbott, residing on the Schott road outside the city limits, died yesterday of smallpox. The entire family of nine have had the disease which is reported by the attending physicians to be in a dangerous form. Five of the family have recovered and two are still ill with it.
Care had been taken by County Physician Mansur to quarantine the house and he will make a strong effort to prevent its spread to any other locality. The family is in destitute circumstances owing to the long illness and inability of the head to go to work while his home has been closed.
