Her funeral service was Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Crosby with Pastor Zachariah Shipman officiating. Burial followed at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Burg Township.
Louise was born July 15, 1924 in Ambrose, the fourth child of Ed and Tena (Severson) Ellingson. Baptized and confirmed as a Lutheran and raised on the family homestead, she walked to the country school until grade eight.
In her youth, Louise enjoyed living on the farm, walking to neighbors and listening to Oscar Palm and Friends play music. She enjoyed music, dancing and "Polka Time."
It would be typical to find Louise with a book, magazine, or scanning a mail order catalog. 'Gone With The Wind' was read and re-read.
Louise transitioned to "town" life, living with friends at the Crosby Allen Hotel. While working as a waitress she met her husband Ralph. Early on they lived in Mohall, Tioga, Plentywood and other towns while Ralph was doing road construction.
After settling in Crosby, she tended bar and worked as school cook, convenience store clerk, baker and as a care giver. She spoke fondly of the café days (Crystal Café, Palace of Sweets, Dakota Diner). Known to "mentor" throughout her life, her motto was "get a job" "get and education." She truly enjoyed working and in her last job she studied and was CNA certified while working full time. Louise did not formally retire but stopped working due to medical reasons.
Her memory recall was excellent (birthdays, celebrations, info). Specifics on who/what/when/where was often confirmed after "Lets' ask Louise or Louise would know." She was well known by many and would share family/community quips/stories. Louise enjoyed playing cards.
Going for a drive was also a favorite past time. She did spur of the moment day trips or lunch-at-the park trips but also enjoyed a drag on Main or a summer night cruise around Crosby. She was NOT found of mice or mosquitos or picking mustard from the field.
Louise was a member of the VFW, the American Legion Auxiliary, The Sons of Norway and an advocate/volunteer for the Meals-On-Wheels program.
Louise's home was a welcome stop for many family friends, and co-workers from far and near. Her recipes are well known (still requested and shared) as she was a wonderful cook and baker. Celebrating Norwegian holidays meant it was lutefisk and lefse time.
Her greatest joy in life was visiting with people. She was remembered fondly by many as Mom, Grandma, Great-Grand (Grammy) as well as Auntie, Weezy and Lucy. Time spent with the five grand and 10 great-grandchildren was especially cherished.
Her twinkling brilliant blue eyes, love of live and positive attitude will be greatly missed by all who love her.
Preceded in death by her mother, father, brother Louis Alvin, brother Carl, husband Ralph and son Paul.
She is survived by a sister, Marie Pfannsmith, Golden Valley, MN; two sons Clyde and Rick, Crosby; daughter Joyce (Sacto); grandchildren Amanda Aalund, Crystal (Aaron) Overbo, Cameo (Glen) Davis, Robert Booth and Sam Aalund; great-grandchildren Charisma, Victoria, Kindee, Haylee, Adrienne, Jocelyn, Janae, Jordin, Jailyn and Jackson and her beloved nieces nephews and their families.
