Elwin passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on July 6, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital. Elwin was born June 10, 1921, to Anton and Dora Aaby at the family homestead, west of Molt. He served his country during World War II in the European theater and received and honorable discharge on Dec. 20. 1945.


On Dec. 24, 1946, Elwin married his lifelong companion, Frances Rice, in Joliet. To this union there were seven children, 15 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Elwin provided for his family by working as a farmer/ rancher in the Molt area as well as south of Billings. He also worked at Great Western Sugar for 20 years.


He is survived by his wife; five sons, Steve (Darlene) of Bothell Wash., Bill (Chris), Darrell (Margaret), Paul (Liesa), Pete (Angie); his two daughters Mary Ann (Don) Baxter and Kathy (Tracy) Glenn of Billings. He is also survived by his sisters, Hilga Phillips and Mildred Robuck; and his brother, Dale.


He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Clifford, Harry, Maynard; and sisters, Alice, Margaret, Ethel, and Doris.


Services will be Saturday, July 8, at Smith Chapel West, at 1 p.m. Internment will follow at the Juliet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Cedarwood Villa Alzheimers Unit, P.O. Box 430, Red Lodge, MT 59068.
