CLAXTON -- Bernice Bowen Lane died Sept. 23 at home. The native of Bulloch County was a former longtime resident of Bryan County and a business owner there. She retired and lived in Evans County the past 18 years. She was a member of Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church and Pembroke Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of D.J. Lane. SURVIVORS: a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Martha Lane of Pembroke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Kenneth Durrence of Claxton and Fay and Carl Lettow of Savannah; a brother, Jake Bowen of Stuart, Fla.; four sisters, Bonnie B. Moore of Jacksonville, Fla., Ann B. Morgan of Albany, Lucille B. Allen of Savannah and Elma B. Adams of Claxton; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. VISITATION: 5 p.m. today at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church, burial in Bay Branch Cemetery.
