Elizabeth Ames Acworth, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at her daughter's home in Church Neck. She was the daughter of the late James Patrick Ames and Bettie Bell Ames. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, William C. Acworth Jr.; son, William R. Acworth III; and siblings, Mary Bell Badger, Ruth Ames, and James and Phillip Ames.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Paschall and her husband, Joseph, and Ann Gorman and her husband, Tim; grandchildren, Suzanne Henderson, Sarah Castillo, Riley and Catherine Gorman; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Acworth also is survived by her sister, Patricia Mapp.

Elizabeth graduated from Franktown High School in 1936. She was employed by the Northampton County Health Department and retired at the age of 76.

Elizabeth was a woman devoted to family and to the service of others. She had been a faithful and loyal member of Red Bank Baptist Church for 83 years. She was the first female deacon to serve Red Bank Church, and was the church organist for 45 years. She also volunteered her service for many years as pianist to the residents of Heritage Hall.

Elizabeth touched many lives with her caring nature, was well known for her legendary Sunday dinners for family and friends, and for her service to church and community.

A funeral was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 15, at Red Bank Baptist Church, Marionville, officiated by Dr. John Robertson.
