The community was saddened Monday [July 25, 1927] when Mrs. Iver Groth was taken suddenly away to the call of her maker. She had been around during the day and the end came very suddenly while outdoors at noon. She was one of the community’s best known and best liked pioneers, having been a resident of this community for fifty years. She leaves besides many friends and her husband, ten children to mourn her sudden departure.
Thorine Groth, wife of Iver Groth, was born May 3, 1868 in Hallingdal, Norway. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Sondreal came to this country in the year 1874 and settled at St. Ansgar, Iowa. They came to North Dakota and homesteaded west of Hatton about fifty years ago. She was united in marriage to Iver Groth October 6, 1886. Three children preceded her in death and she is survived by the following children: Oscar Groth, Hensel, N.Dak.; Martin Groth; Mrs. W.L. Thompson; Clarence; Mrs. Bernhard Aasen, Hensel, N.Dak.; Clara Groth, Utah; Mrs. Martin Aaland; Gilbert, Inga and Palmer at home.
The last rites were held this afternoon at Goose River Church with Rev. Eikeland doing the officiating. – Hatton Free Press, July 28, 1927
