GARNER - Joyce Parks Abernathy, 61, of Garner, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Universal HealthCare of Fuquay Varina.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 9, 2016, at First Wesleyan Church in Troy with the Rev. Dr. Ed Lindsay officiating. Interment will follow in Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Abernathy was born in Montgomery County to Barna Alton and Revauda Nelson Parks. She was a chiropractic assistant. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Abernathy was predeceased by her brother, Albert Lee Parks.

Surviving are her husband, Frank Abernathy of the home; daughter, Kelly J. Abernathy and husband, Robert Shutzbach III of Cary; brothers, Jerry Parks (Phyllis) of Mt. Gilead; Larry Parks (Annette) of Troy; sisters, Irene Davis of Troy; Betty Holleman of Asheboro; Sarah Hulin of Troy; Jean West (David) of Troy.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Friday, April 8, 2016, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
