Florence was the second of three children born to Edward and Alice (Demmitt) Swisher. Her older brother was Olathe Lee and younger brother was Paul D. Swisher.

She married four times. The first marriage was to Luther Amos Blackburn on June 15, 1922 in Oklahoma (they had a daughter Lahoma). Second she married Harvey B. Foster about 1926 (they had a son, Paul Eugene). About 1929 she married Ralph W Abbott (they had two sons, Ralph Patrick and Ronnie). In 1960 she married Frank Conway.
