Son of Charles and Mary (Sampson) Adams. Henry followed his father Charles Adams to the sea and became a Master Mariner and ships Captain. Captain Adams sailed between Boston, North Carolina, West Indies and Central America. Henry left the sea for the commission business in North Carolina.

Henry married Elizabeth Hawley Fish on 10/2/1847 in Kingston, MA. Elizabeth was the daughter of Charles and Harriet Sampson Fish.
