Ruth Aberasturi was born on September 7, 1930 in San Francisco, CA and left this life for the next one on April 20, 2016 in Carson City, NV. She received her undergraduate degree in social economics from Dominican University in San Rafael and then a masters degree in social work at UC Berkeley. Working at Catholic Social Services in San Francisco, she met her husband John Aberasturi. After moving to Nevada with John to run the State Children's Home in Carson City, Ruth went back to school and received a masters in education, special education and school administration. In 1975 Ruth was appointed Director of Special Services for Carson City School District in which she remained until retiring in 2006. Ruth was also actively involved in many local charities and committees helping to improve the lives of youth across the State. Ruth is survived by her four children and their spouses John Aberasturi & Sandy McGowan, Tina & Holland Akerley, Ruth & David Gordon and Paul & Lydia Aberasturi as well as her five grandchildren and their spouses and her five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Russell Hanley, Tony Hanley, Michael Hanley, Paul Hanley, and their spouses as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband John Aberasturi and her sister Anne Connell. The family invites you to join them in celebration of her life on Friday, May 6th at 3:30 at Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Community with Reverend Charles Durante, V.G. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Carson City Schools Foundation (ccschoolsfoundation.org/) in her honor.
