Mrs. Abernethy died on Thursday, March 10th at her residence in Burtonsville. She had retired from the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C.
Her father, Joe C. Wilkey, preceded her in death.
Survivors are her husband, Howard Abernethy of the home; her mother, Ethel (Holsclaw) Wilkey of Dillsboro, NC; & two brothers, Frank & Dennis Wilkey, both of Sylva, NC.
Interment followed funeral services conducted on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at the Jarrett Memorial Baptist Church in Dillsboro; Revs. Wayne Hill & Corey Boon officiating. A memorial service was also held on Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Takoma Park Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.
