Jerry Wayne Abbott, age 53, of Canmer, Kentucky, formerly of Letcher County, Kentucky, passed away Saturday April 5, 2014 at the Markey Cancer Center, Lexington, Kentucky. He was born on October 23, 1960 at Dayton, Ohio and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky. Mr. Abbott worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church. He enjoyed travelling, riding his motorcycle and listening to music.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Squire Sparkman.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Jean Sparkman, of Lexington, Kentucky; his father, Joe Abbott, of Michigan; his partner, Cynthia Spangler, of Canmer, Kentucky; three sisters, Linda Larkey, of Lexington, Kentucky, Terri Abbott, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Denise King, of Lexington, Kentucky; three brothers, Glenn Sparkman, of Nashville Tennessee; Joe Abbott, Jr. and Eddie Abbott, both of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday April 7, 2014 after 6:00 PM at Carty Funeral Home Neon Chapel, Neon, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 8, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Fleming Baptist Church, with Edmon Bolling and Harold Vance officiating. Interment will follow at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Jeff, Kentucky.
