At 88 years of age, the last of the charter members of the Viking Lutheran Church was laid to rest on 21 Jun 1957 at Everett, WA. Her name was Mrs. James (Barbara) Aanderud Andrews. Mrs. Andrews was born on 9 Aug 1868 in Hallingdahl, Norway where she was baptized. She came to this country with her parents at the age of 18 in 1886 where they settled at Hickson, ND and where she was confirmed and grew to womanhood. Two years later on 24 Mar 1888 she was united in marriage to August L. Aanderud, who was one of the original six pioneers and charter members of the Viking Lutheran Church and the South Viking township settlement who came to homestead. In June of 1886 exactly 71 years ago, almost to the day of her passing. As a pioneer, she went through the hardships which our pioneers encountered and after many years of farming, they moved to Hamberg where Mr. Aanderud went into the merchantile business and where they resided until he passed away, 23 years ago this June in 1934. Mrs. Aanderud then spent most of her declining years among her children after her husband death and went to the state of Washington where four of her children resided as well as her grand children and great-grandchildren. To Mr. and Mrs. August Aanderud eleven children were born of which the following have preceded her in death: Leonard Aanderud, Arthur Aanderud, Adeline Mrs. Henry Rangen and one son who died in infancy. Surviving Mr. and Mrs. Aanderud are two daughters: Mrs. Martin (Clara) Ellingson of Everett, WA and Mrs. Sidney (Mildred) Ellingson of Seattle, WA; five sons: Gotfred of Negaunce, MI, Clarence Aanderud of Maddock, ND, Beltram Aanderud of Beulah, ND, Richard Aanderud of Everett, WA and Elmer Aanderud of Everett, WA, thirty grand children, forty-one great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. She was a charter member of the Viking Lutheran Church and the ladies aid while she resided in South Viking township. She moved to Everett, WA in 1939 while still able to get about unattended, where she attended Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Mrs. Aanderud remarried to James Andrews in April 1946 who preceded her in death in 1955. Funeral services were held at the Solie Funeral Home on Saturday 22 Jun at 1:00 p. m. at Everett, WA with the Rev. Milton Nesse of Our Saviors Lutheran Church officiating. Mrs. Andrews was laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery. Thus closes the first chapter of the book, written by our very first six original charter members and their wives of South Viking Township, to whom we owe so much. Pallbearers were, Chester Ratzak, Glenn Ratzak, James Braschler, Ellsworth Johnson and Wesley Hanson and Paul Wolf.
