Elaine Fischer, 81, Garrison, died Saturday, July 2, 2016 at a Bismarck hospital.

Elaine was born on August 24, 1934 in Fargo, ND to G.N. “Gus” and Eleanor (Calder) Geiszler. They moved to Minot in 1945. She graduated from Minot High School in 1952 and from North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU) in 1956.

She then moved to Washburn where she was the McLean County Home Extension Agent. She married James “Jim” Fischer on April 7, 1958 and moved to Garrison. They purchased a farm in the Emmet area in 1960 and raised small grains and Jim did aerial crop spraying. Elaine was a stay at home mother and ‘go-fer’ for their farming and a part-time writer for the McLean County Independent for several years. They retired from farming in 1999 and from crop spraying in 2001 but continued to live on the farm.

Their family included seven children, 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Jim died on September 18, 2013. Elaine continued to live on the farm.

She was active in the community and in recent years was known for making hand-loomed rugs. Members of St. Nicholas Church in Garrison, the Fischer’s attended Sacred Heart Church at White Shield in recent years.

Survivors include Kevin (Lisbeth) of Paradise, TX, Kileen ‘Suz’ (Tom) Trueblood of Hoyt Lakes, MN, Connie Fischer of Rapid City, SD, Kent ‘Buck’ (Tricia Gereszek) of Bismarck, Kelly of Garrison; two stepsons, Craig (Marilyn) of Rapid City, SD, and Colin (Kathy) of Garrison; 10 grandchildren, Jody, Jason and Josh Fischer, Jessica and Lesbeth Fischer, Jennifer Sikes, Lee and Clay Trueblood, Melissa Lefebvre, and Dustin Fischer; five great grandchildren and two sisters, Florence Wiest and Margaret (Gene) Zaderaka.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter-in-law, Phyllis Fischer and two brothers-in-law.
